Cricket has always been one of my great interests and I hope it is the same for millions of fans out there. Whenever I’m online I visit Cricinfo for updates and latest news on Cricket. When I’m at work or doing other stuff online it makes it difficult for me to keep up with scores of live matches.

My problem is now solved. I’m a regular user of Firefox and I use all its customizable features to the maximum. We have Addons which can be installed in Firefox. There are two of these addons.

Hitwicket

Scorewatch

Above is a screen shot of my Firefox Status bar with both these Addons installed. The one on the left is HitWicket and the one on the right is Scorewatch. You will receive latest score updates from these. You can change the preferences to enable alerts.

Hitwicket Addon gives you updates from CMDN.com whereas Scorewatch gives you the option of choosing between Cricinfo.com or ecb.co.uk. Scorewatch also gives you updates from both county cricket and International Cricket, whereas Hitwicket just shows the updates from latest International Match.

From my experience I can say that Hitwicket gives you more frequent score updates than Scorewatch. Click on the above links and download these addons and enrich your Firefox experience.

Firefox 3.5 will be here soon, and it’s shaping up to be the fastest Firefox yet: more than twice as fast as Firefox 3 and 10 times as fast as Firefox 2

It is indeed faster but when compared to Google’s Chrome 2.0 Browser, its speed is less. Chrome is quite fast as I had written earlier. If speed is what matters for you, then Chrome 2.0 is the browser for you.

But Firefox offers a lot of other new features which are unavailable in Chrome. Firefox 3.5 has stiff competition from Chrome but Firefox’s numerous features – addons plugins etc make it the best browser to use. It is the most customizable browser and includes a lot of agenda-setting features.

Private Browsing Mode is a new feature in Firefox available in Firefox 3.5 beta or later versions. Note that this feature is not available in earlier versions of Firefox. You can check out What’s New in Firefox 3.5.

Private Browsing is a feature which can be turned On or Off by the user as per his requirement. There might be situations where a user would not like to store his online data on the computer and would remove any trace of it. In earlier versions of Firefox, we had an option called Clear Private Data. It used to clear all the data which is stored on the computer. There were quite a few disadvantages as it would delete all the existing cookies.

Turn On Private Browsing

Now with the new Private Browsing Mode, we can Turn On the mode whenever we start our private browsing.

Click on Tools Menu and select Start Private Browsing. Alternatively you can click Ctrl+Shift+P.

It will now inform you that it would save and close all your existing tabs and windows and start your Private Browsing.

Turn Off Private Browsing

Click on the Tools menu and select the Private Browsing entry , which will show a check mark to indicate that Private Browsing is currently enabled.

The windows and tabs you were using when you enabled Private Browsing will appear, and you can use Firefox normally. The Firefox window’s title will no longer show (Private Browsing) when Private Browsing is off.

When Private Browsing is ON Firefox would not retain

Visited pages: The visited pages will be not added to the list of sites in the History menu, the Library window’s History list, or the Smart Location Bar’s address list.

Cookies: Files created by websites, that store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site (When a website has a “remember this” checkbox, they are using a cookie) will not be stored.

Web cache files: No temporary Internet files or cached files from web pages will be saved until you turn off Private Browsing.

Download List entries: No files you download will remain in the list in the Downloads window after you turn off Private Browsing.

Passwords: no passwords will be automatically filled in during the your Private Browsing session, and no new passwords will be saved.

If you are a Firefox 3.5b4 user then ‘Check for Updates..’ by clicking on the Help menu in the title bar.

Read the announcement in the Mozilla Blog.

I tried out the Preview. 3.5 Preview users would be updated automatically to Release Candidate version once it is available.

The new Private Browsing Mode and the updated Clear Recent History function are great tools to keep your browsing habits a secret. It helps you in covering your traces especially when you are using shared computers.

Another new feature of Firefox 3.5 is that it offers the ability to tear tabs from the tab bar to create new windows. We can also drag and drop tabs from one window to another easily. This is one cool feature which I really liked and I feel it’d be useful for me.

We now do not need an external plugins or a media player to watch videos in Firefox.

You can check out What’s New in Firefox 3.5.

Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers, commonly used by computer users in the world. I guess it needs no introduction. Firefox is the best ever browser that I’ve used till now. I’ve been using firefox ever since I actively started using the internet.

Why Firefox is so great..?

Best thing about Firefox is that it is open source. So there are thousands of people modifying the source code to create their own features, add-ons, plug-ins and themes. Firefox has indeed become a common phenomenon. This is because internet browsing has become more personalized. This is possible firefox allows you to install plug-ins and add-ons. Moreover it has been present in the market for a long period now and thanks to that there are a lot of features specifically designed for firefox which aren’t available in other browsers like Chrome.

Firefox is considered to be one of the safest browsers and are recommended by many IT experts. A sophisticated phishing security has been included in Firefox 3. If you don’t want any malware to enter into your PC, then using Firefox is a great choice.

It is the best option available among the web browsers available today.
